Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
1Peter 5:8
If you study about lions, you’ll find that they will approach a herd and they will roar with a great roar. And the herd will huddle up for safety. He’ll continue to roar until some of the herd become afraid and flee from the others. Some of these are weak, and some are very old, and some are very young. And they’re all very susceptible to him when they get away from the herd and he will devour them.
And the Bible says that Satan operates just like that, looking for those that he can destroy. That’s why it’s important that we are faithful in the church, and encourage one another, and pray for one another, and forgive one another. That’s why we must encourage one another in our spiritual walk.
God’s Word is truth. But everything that Satan says is a lie. John 8:44 says, “When he speaketh, he speaketh a lie.” And when men believe the lies of the devil, it gives him a foothold in their lives. Distancing ourselves from the truth of the word of God, and from the people of God, make us an easy target for Satan’s attacks.
This year, let’s encourage one another to walk in the truth. Let’s be faithful in “herding together” in the house of God for every service. Commit yourself now, at the beginning of this new year, to these things:
- A daily time in the Word of God. We need to hear God’s truth every single day.
- Faithful attendence to the House of God. Gathering together for preaching and fellowship is the foundation of the church.
- Regular service in the Work of God. We are members of the body of the body of Christ. And the body depends on every single part. Find your role, and be faithful to it.
May God protect us from the attacks of the wicked one, and grant us a fruitful year as we serve him together.
