The Danger of Favoritism

We naturally respond to certain kinds of people, and we are often inclined to look favorably on those who potentially offer us some sort of benefit. James warns his readers of that kind of superficial reaction and shows them the weakness in their faith that can be revealed by their attitudes toward others.
